Remembering Lory Reimann

Celebration of Life- Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 11:00 AM the Kent Event Center.

On January 10, 2017, Lory Reimann was tragically killed in an accident involving two bellydump trailers in Tacoma, WA. Lory began working for Scarsella Bros., Inc. in 1993 and has been an extraordinary part of our team since the beginning. Lory recently shared the story of how he began working at Scarsella; he and his family were moving up from Oregon and saw a Scarsella project on the side of the freeway in the Spokane area. He told his family that he was going to go get a job there the next day and he did exactly that. Lory started as an operator, but it wasn’t long before he began acquiring more responsibility. Lory moved up through the ranks and eventually became a superintendent in the North Idaho/Spokane area. Back then, Scarsella didn’t have a “Truck Boss.” The five brothers and superintendents would call drivers using a thick phone list that they carried around in their pickup trucks. By the early 2000’s, the Third Runway Project at the SeaTac airport was going out to bid and it was clear that the trucking operations would require more formal management. Since Lory was always trustworthy, accountable, and easy to get along with, the 5 brothers asked Lory if he would come to Seattle and manage the high volume trucking operation.

Lory accepted the position and seamlessly developed a position that had not existed before. Soon after Lory began his role as the “Truck Boss;” the Third Runway project began. This project required over 200 trucks hauling material from multiple sources and involved complicated coordination with multiple companies, owner representatives, and employees. The job was extremely stressful, but Lory managed the job with efficiency and professionalism. From then on, Lory supervised hundreds of drivers and managed the stressful logistics of the Scarsella fleet. Lory consistently adapted to the changing needs of the trucking industry and the business of construction. He was a natural leader and a true professional in even the most difficult situations. Lory was well respected by all of his co-workers and considered a valuable asset to the Teamsters and the Apprenticeship Training Program as well. He will be remembered as a loyal employee, a respectful boss, and a true team player to everyone he worked with.

There are not many people at Scarsella that didn’t work with Lory; and for many of us, Lory was not just a co-worker, he was a member of our family. Lory will be deeply missed by his co-workers, friends, and family. Lory’s son Matt followed in his footsteps in joining the Operating Engineers; Matt became a journeyman operator recently and has worked for Scarsella since beginning his apprenticeship. Lory’s brother, Brady has also been a longtime driver at Scarsella Bros.

As many of you know, Matt and Lory were very close. Scarsella has set up an account at Banner Bank if anyone would like to make a donation benefitting Lory’s family.  Donations can be made at any Banner Bank location; please reference account number: 4700623917.
